What to Expect

Once you arrive, you will get a better feel for the area and your desired takeaway along with the current weather conditions, which often dictates the timing of your itinerary.  Be sure to bring layers of clothing, a headlamp, closed toe shoes, and water bottles (2 liters per person at least).  We provide all gear needed for your guided off-road adventure driving our desert vehicles. There is Wi-Fi at Cynthia’s Basecamp, but no cell phone reception within a 40-mile radius.  Your room is like a standard hotel room…only in the middle of desert.  Basecamp has a common room with a shared guest refrigerator.  Bring your favorite snacks, lunch items, and beverages.  Water is drinkable at Cynthia’s Basecamp.  Your region of exploration is half the size of Belgium, population 435.  There is little human development, most are remnants from the gold rush and mining heyday.  Full moonscapes are epic, our dark night skies are indescribable.

Itinerary

Day 1Introduction to Your Pristine Desert Landscape

Cynthia will greet you and introduce you to the desert that will be your home for the next 3 days.  Dinner will be served family style with all guests.  Campfires are inspiring, so Cynthia offers both a community firepit and a private one.  If you have not yet set your retreat intentions, this is the time to.  Choose stargazing or a hot spring soak to end your day.

Day 2Adventures on tread and on foot

Breakfast served at basecamp.  Finalize safari planning with Cynthia.  Gear up for your guided off-road adventure.  Lunch on your own; a picnic with your favorite lunch items, or dine at one of our local restaurants or breweries.  Cynthia will guide you to the hiking trails to begin your solo exploration of the Amargosa River Canyon.  Your hike is curated based on your intentions and desired takeaway.  Check in with Cynthia after your hike.  Dinner at Basecamp followed by campfire, hot springs, stars on your own or with other guests.

Day 3Curated trip to Death Valley National Park

A hearty breakfast at Basecamp will get you ready for your day in the Park.  Death Valley is the largest national park in the lower 48 states and has nearly 1,000 miles of roads that provide access to both popular and remote locations.  You will be in the park all day and will take your lunch and dinner there.  You will leave for the Park with a finalized itinerary along with how and where you will take your meals.  Check in with Cynthia upon your return.  Share your adventure with Cynthia or other guests.  Cap off the evening with a campfire or just watch the stars.

Day 4Clarity

A final breakfast at Basecamp. After your immersion into the Mojave Desert, you will undoubtedly have wisdom to share or to keep close to your chest. Either way, you will come away with the clarity you sought and be surprised by what else the desert gave you.
