Join us for a desert immersion experience… only looking up! Cynthia’s Basecamp sits under a rare dark night sky in the Amargosa Basin adjacent to Death Valley National Park. This perfect spot provides ring side seats to nature’s most spectacular shows; astronomical events. Due to the unpredictable nature of these anomalies, this will be a last-minute booking. Contact Cynthia to be put on the guest list if you become aware of a visible comet or astronomical event in our region. Everything must come together perfectly. The moon phase must be right, there must be no cloud cover, and the timing of the event must be at night, so to be visible against our velvet black night sky.
Look for announcements for a potential upcoming comet or other astronomical event. Watch for updates leading up to the event. When we are reasonably sure that the event will be visible, guests can make the booking.

In winter, spring and fall be sure to bring layers of clothing, a headlamp, long pants. In summer, day activities are not recommended due to the extreme heat. Bring water bottles (2 liters per person at least). We have a hybrid tech-free zone: WIFI at basecamp, but no cell phone reception within a 40-mile radius. Your room is like a standard hotel room…only in the middle of the desert. Basecamp has a common area with a shared refrigerator. Bring your favorite snacks, lunch items, and beverages. Water is drinkable at Cynthia’s Basecamp. Our region is half the size of Belgium, population 435, so there is little human development, most the remnants from the mining heyday.
We accept credit and debit cards. Payment in full is required to secure your booking. We have a 21-day cancellation policy. For additional information, please visit our Terms of Service page.
Cynthia will greet you and get you settled into your rooms. Dinner and discussion to follow. Move to the stargazing platform and wait for the show to begin. Other activities will be announced depending upon the time of year.

Breakfast served at basecamp. This is the time to share the photos and thoughts about the cosmos. Check-out.
