Turn your Death Valley vacation up a notch with a guided and outfitted ATV adventure tour! Curated for a maximum of 11 riders we begin in the vast Mojave Desert, and work our way up to the Nopah Mountain Range. High atop limestone ridges you will scan your eye over the exact same scenery that Spanish explorers saw when first arriving in California in 1829. We then drive past eons of geological mountain building that brought the gold, silver, lead, borax, gypsum, and iron to the surface. Next we ride on the old railroad grade that takes us back 150 years to remnants of the gold rush era. There we stop at the first mine dating back to the 1860’s. The 2nd stop will be deep in the Amargosa Canyon at the hidden China Ranch natural oasis. Although there will be times to drive fast, this tour is not all about speed. You will encounter different types of terrain requiring slower speeds and some maneuvering. The mines have not been maintained for over 50 years making them potentially unstable, so we will not be going inside. However, the outside of the entrance is just as interesting. Our Death Valley ATV Tours include a mandatory 30-minute pre-ride briefing, 2+ hours of drive time with 2 stops of breathtaking views and fascinating history. You must be at least 18 years old and have a valid driver’s license to drive. You must be at least 6 years of age to ride. We have 2-seat and 4-seat vehicles. We meet at Cynthia’s Basecamp. Due to its remote location we recommend downloading directions to Cynthia’s Basecamp in case your GPS loses signal. Wi-Fi is accessible on the property, however there is no cell phone reception in the immediate area and spotty between here and Las Vegas. Make sure you have a full tank of gas before heading out to the desert and bring plenty of water with you – 2 litres per person. We ride in almost all weather conditions and there are temperature variations during your ride due to elevation gain and the nature of the desert. Wear closed toe shoes or boots, long pants and layers of shirts and jackets.
The Amargosa Basin is vast and remote. To see it all you would need many months of spare time with the ability to hike a few hundred miles. Thankfully, the United States Department of Agriculture designates recreation here as “semi-primitive with motorized access”. Lost World Tours has partnered with the United states Bureau of Land Management and the Old Spanish Trail Association to offer visitors a once in a lifetime opportunity to explore the back roads of the Great American Southwest and its history. Through these tours, visitors will come to understand why Lost World Tours, Cynthia’s, and our federal agencies work so hard to balance access with the preservation of this special and wild place.
