A SAFARI FOR THE ADVENTUROUS PHOTOGRAPHER

Designed for photographers of any level of expertise and with some wilderness hiking experience.  Are you willing to do a 4-mile round trip hike to photograph 250’ sand dunes against majestic mountains near an abandoned mine tower?  Brave the dark desert night to capture the Milky Way?  Travel off-road deep into the Mojave Desert to shoot in a mine tunnel?  Soak in a natural hot spring under the stars?  View nebulae, galaxies and the moon so close you could touch the craters? If so, Join us for a photography adventure of a lifetime.

CHAD ZALUNARDO

I have known Chad for over 20 years and am still in awe of his obsession with our vast region of the Amargosa Valley and Death Valley.  His natural passion for astronomy, photography and hiking gives him an intimacy with the Mojave Desert that clearly runs deep in his photography.  I am privileged to have his unrivaled photos on my website, and his authentic love of the region displayed on our home page video.  Chad hosts educational astro safaris and astrophotography tutorials at Cynthia’s, star parties at Yosemite and Death Valley National Parks.  He guides hikes in and around the Death Valley area.  It is my experience that however varied your desires are, Chad knows where your ultimate hidden gem may lie and knows how to get you there….and back.   – Cynthia

Basecamp

Cynthia assigns lodging based on availability and guest preference.  Expect to find your guest room much like a standard hotel room…except in the middle of the desert! Your room is designed to support your experience in the natural world. Rooms have no phones or TV’s. We provide fresh linens, towels, soap and shampoo. No cooking facilities, but there is a shared frig/freezer for guest use.  Cynthia’s is a smoke-free facility according to California law. There are designated smoking areas outside the buildings.  There is no cellular phone service within a 40-mile radius from basecamp, however, there is WIFI at Cynthia’s Basecamp.

Driving

We provide “side by sides”, which are 4- wheel drive recreational vehicles designed to be fun, safe and easy to drive on rugged landscapes that are normally inaccessible to automobiles.   We have Honda Pioneers that can seat up to 4 and Polaris RZR’s for up to 2. Tours are always guided to ensure safe legal access to this hidden gem.

“I’ve wandered this vast rugged land for 20 years.  I have seen remnants of worlds long gone, walked ancient human footpaths, observed species in their habitats never touched by humans, listened to my breath in utter silence.  I only have a few short days to give this experience to my guests. Side-by-sides are the perfect tool to make this an experience of a lifetime.” -Cynthia
